I love the Olympics!!! There is something about watching World Class Athletes climb to the peak of their sport to compete. Years of sacrifice and dedication all for the coveted title of a Gold Medal Olympian. While many great storylines have emerged out of the 2012 Summer Olympics, like Michael Phelps becoming the most decorated Olympian in history, my favorite story is Golden Gabriella “Gabby” Douglas (USA GOLD, rearranged). Not just for the obvious reason of Gabby becoming the first African American woman to win the individual all-around Gold Medal in gymnastics, but for the story behind the story.
This year P&G sponsored a campaign called “Raising An Olympian”. Check out Gabby’s story in the video below (tissue alert) and then I’ll share 8 key principles neccessary to successfully accomplish your financial goals.
Did you catch them? Here they are:
BE SPECIFIC: Set a clear and intentional goal.
BELIEVE: Believe that you can achieve anything that you put your heart to. Believe that whatever you want, is possible and doable.
LONG TERM VISION: Be able to see your goal from afar. It may be two, five, or ten or more years away.
FOCUS: Keep your eyes on the prize! Focus on the end goal, not the process.
SACRIFICE: Be willing to be uncomfortable and delay gratification.
PERSERVERANCE: Fight for your dream, even when you feel like quitting.
SUPPORT: Have a team of people around you who can nurture your dream. They may not be the ones you think should be there. Look beyond the obvious.
HIRE A COACH: In order to for you to go to another plateau, sometimes you may need additional HELP to push you beyond your comfort zone and to hold you accountable.
Don’t give up on your financial goal. It is within your reach. Apply the principles above and keep pushing ahead!
Congratulations Gabby and Natalie Hawkins! How has Gabby’s accomplishment inspired you? Leave a comment below.
